Yesterday’s celebration of 100th anniversary of the establishment of Lake Avalon Groves was a huge success, with over 130 residents and property owners attending. On September 18, 1924, J.P. Holbrook, the Secretary of the Orlando Orange Grove Company, recorded the subdivision plat for Lake Avalon and Lake Avalon Groves with Orange County. We have adopted this date as the official “birthdate” of our community.
The kids had a blast on the bouncy castles, while the adults enjoyed sitting under the tent catching up with neighbors, making new connections, and listening to the music of DJ Panoramic Entertainment. Visitors also had the opportunity to read about the establishment of Lake Avalon Groves in the mid-1920’s in copies of “Turning Sunshine Into Gold” which were distributed across the tables under the tent. If you didn’t have an opportunity to read the book at the celebration, you can check it out here: https://ufdc.ufl.edu/UF00004169/00001/flipbook/images
To make sure that no one went home hungry, guests were able to snack on delicious refreshments from El Cactus Azul, Burgers by Mr. K, Philreals Smokin’ BBQ, and Kona Ice food trucks.
Attendees received tote bags with the logo from the new AHPOA website, which had gone live just prior to the event, and was announced to the crowd during the event.
Professional photographer, Connor Holden, was on hand to capture all the fun and the photos will be posted soon.
A big thank you goes out to Jacob and RoseAnna Malherbe for hosting the event at their Phil C. Peters property. Their contributions to the event, and their work in putting it all together are greatly appreciated.
